Nov. 19, 2022 Port Ghalib, Scuba Diving, and More!

It is another sunny, warm, and breezy day in Port Ghalib. We are enjoying the moderate temps during the day and the slightly cooler temps in the evening. It’s about 79 degrees during the day and getting down to 71 or so at night. We hear from our friends in MN that it is snowing there.

We finally went scuba diving. πŸ™‚ It was good to get back underwater again as we hadn’t been diving since March of 2019. We took videos but have no still photos from the dive, so here are a couple of pictures of the dive boat. It was a really nice boat. I was particularly thankful for the hot shower on board as my lips were blue after the first dive and I was shivering quite a bit. (This tends to happen to me, so nothing new.) The people working on the boat were absolutely *wonderful*!! We met a quartet of divers from Sweden. They were super nice and very funny.

Our other big news is that we finally have a dinghy and a motor. πŸ™‚ It would seem that we purchased the only two-stroke *short shaft* motor in the country. Seriously, it took a long time to find one with a short shaft.

The dinghy is “home made.” For real. By this we mean that we paid someone to make one for us based on our specifications. It is not a standard brand. We knew this was risky, but we had reached the point where we were borderline desperate for a dinghy and the price was right. It turned out sort of okay. We will have to make some changes, but we will use it.

Happy to have this!
Our unique dinghy. And it should be unique. πŸ˜‰ The compartment for the gas can is quite large, yet too small for the tank that came with the motor. We will be removing or replacing it. We will also move the attachment points for the bow forward. The channel the manufacturer created for us to run the fuel hose from the fuel compartment to the motor is too small for the fuel line to fit through it. Yep.

But we think she will float and she is the right size so we will live with it. We are not allowed to put her in the water until we leave the port, which is why I say “we think” she will float. She looks sturdy enough.

Port Ghalib was clearly built with an eye towards expansion. This creates a very nice path for running. One simply follows the water along the structures they have built, such as you see in the following pictures:

I start my run from the boat, go to the marina along the little path and back again. I estimate it to be about 3.5 miles – a nice little run.

We haven’t shared many pictures of the landscape. This is the road I use to walk to the small stores for groceries:

Looking left from the road. It is sand like this the entire walk until I reach the small developed area where the store is located. Then it is quite the oasis (see next picture).
This is the view on the other side of the road. You can see the marina in the distance, as well as evidence that they have been moving the sand around. In fact, they are currently moving sand around, as a bulldozer came from behind me on one of my runs with a shovel filled to the brim.

This will be our last night at the marina. We will be eating at our favorite restaurant again tonight. Speaking of eating, here are some food pics:

This is a camel burger. Tastes like beef. And yes, it was as fat as it looks!
This is a pretty banana split.
We will end this post with a pretty sunset.

The sundae was actually quite small, especially for Michael, who can eat an entire carton of ice cream in three sittings. 🀣🀣

Yes, we hear that it has been quite cold. It is getting chillier here too. Only 75 degrees now. Hee hee!!

My son lives in New York. They had 40″ of snow in one storm last week! I have never experienced that.

Be well. We love reading your comments!
